S.K.R.PUPILS WELFARE SOCIETY (Suravarapukondareddy Pupils Welfare Society)

NGO work is important because it uplifts vulnerable communities, bridges social gaps, and ensures access to education, healthcare, and dignity for those who are often overlooked.

S.K.R. Pupils Welfare Society, founded in 1999 in Andhra Pradesh, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare and empowerment of differently-abled individuals—especially children with intellectual disabilities and hearing impairments. The society operates the S.K.R. Manasika Vikas Kendram & Deaf School, providing specialized education, rehabilitation, and holistic care, and is recognized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the National Trust. Over the years, SKR has expanded its work to address the wider needs of marginalized communities through programs in health, women empowerment, livelihoods, sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and child rights. Speech Therapy Training for Children

We provided speech therapy training every month to help children improve their communication, language and speech clarity through personalized and structured sessions. Our therapists support children with hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities and developmental delays by strengthening articulation, vocabulary and expressive skills. Through child friendly and interactive activities, we track each child's progress and boost their confidence in daily communication. This regular monthly training helps children express themselves better at home, in school and within the community.

Children’s Day Celebration

We celebrated Children’s Day on 14 November 2025 in our school through vibrant cultural activities that encouraged creativity, confidence and joyful participation. Students performed dances, songs, skits and other stage events that highlighted their talents and enthusiasm. Teachers organized fun games and interactive programmes to make the day memorable for every child. The celebration created a lively and inclusive atmosphere where children felt appreciated, motivated and inspired.

Sign Language Day Awareness Programme

On 23 September 2025, we organized a Sign Language Day awareness programme at S.K.R. Residential School for the Deaf, Chimakurthy, focusing on promoting sign language and strengthening deaf education. Students, teachers and community members participated in activities highlighting sign language as an essential tool for communication, inclusion and empowerment. The programme encouraged the public to learn basic signs, understand the needs of deaf individuals and support accessible education for children with hearing impairments. This initiative helped build a more inclusive environment where deaf children can express themselves confidently and participate in society with dignity.

Beds Donated to Hearing Impaired Students

On 25 May 2025, we donated beds to hearing impaired students to support their comfort, health and overall well being. This contribution helps create a better residential environment, ensuring that children have a safe and restful space to support their learning and daily activities.

Auditory Training by Speech Therapist

Auditory training is provided by skilled Speech Therapists to improve listening and communication abilities in children with hearing impairments. Our Special Educators conduct functional skill assessments to identify each child’s specific needs. Based on these assessments, students are grouped into Pre-School, Grades I to X, Secondary, Pre-Vocational, and Vocational levels. This helps deliver tailored learning suited to their developmental stage. The goal is to ensure inclusive and effective education for every child.

Residential School for the Deaf, Chimakurthy

The S.K.R. Residential School for the Deaf in Chimakurthy transforms the lives of children with hearing impairments by offering inclusive, high-quality education tailored to their needs. With a curriculum integrating sign language, speech therapy, and auditory training, along with a strong 1:8 teacher-student ratio, each child receives personalized attention and steady academic growth. Digital classrooms, multimedia tools, and innovative teaching methods make learning interactive, accessible, and engaging. Regular medical check-ups and dedicated healthcare support ensure students’ physical well-being, directly strengthening their learning outcomes. Over 230 children have already progressed to higher education and vocational training, reflecting the school’s long-term impact and commitment to empowerment. By nurturing academic skills, social confidence, and family involvement, the school creates a supportive environment where every child can thrive independently and with dignity.

Special School for Intellectual Disabilities, Kanigiri

The Special School for Intellectual Disabilities in Kanigiri provides individualized education for children aged 6 to 23 who require specialized support beyond mainstream schools. Through tailored IEPs, students across four disability categories Profound, Severe, Moderate and Mild receive focused training that strengthens their motor, self help, academic and communication skills. Children with profound disabilities benefit from home based training and physiotherapy, while others learn essential life skills, literacy and functional concepts like time and money. With a 1 to 6 teacher to student ratio, the school offers Pre Primary to Vocational training, ensuring continuous learning. Currently, 60 children are being equipped to participate confidently in society and pursue livelihood opportunities through vocational activities such as making envelopes, candles, paper plates and chalk pieces.

Aids and Appliances Programme

The Aids and Appliances Programme in Prakasam District has transformed the lives of persons with disabilities by providing essential mobility and sensory support devices. Through the distribution of tricycles, hearing aids, calipers, artificial limbs and blind sticks, the initiative promotes independence, confidence and active participation in daily life. A strong awareness campaign across 20 villages reached 947 individuals, educating them on their rights under the 2016 Persons with Disabilities Act and the services available to them. These efforts have not only equipped beneficiaries with life-changing aids but have also fostered dignity, self reliance and greater inclusion within the community. As the programme continues to grow, it remains committed to empowering individuals with disabilities to lead independent, fulfilling and socially engaged lives.
